Missouri Ranks High Among Border States in Home Ownership
According to recently released Census data, Missouri ranked second in home ownership among bordering states with seven out of ten homes being owned by their occupants in 2011. Home ownership in Missouri ranked 15th in the nation outpacing the national average and all but one of the border states.
Among its border states, Missouri ranked second with a 71.1 percent home ownership rate in 2011. Only Iowa (71.2%) had slightly higher rate of home ownership.
Missouri home ownership has remained well above the national average except for 1989 to 1991 when the National and Missouri home ownership rates were similar.
