Missouri Fuel Gauge Report

12 Month Average for Regular Gasoline per GallonAccording to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report, as of June 1, 2010 the retail price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Missouri averaged $2.49 per gallon, 23 cents lower than the national average of $2.72. Missouri pump prices were the lowest in the nation.

As the graph to the right shows, average gas prices in Missouri have been consistently lower than the U.S. average.

Missouri posted the lowest gas prices in the nation, followed by Ohio and South Carolina.

Missouri gas prices were 23 cents lower than one month ago, dropping to $2.49 a gallon from a high last month of $2.72 a gallon. Average diesel prices were $2.84 per gallon, 16 cents lower than the national average.

Alaska topped gas prices in the nation at $3.53 a gallon followed by Hawaii with $3.49. For a list of all of the states, click here.

Missouri and Its Neighbors

Missouri gas prices were the lowest of all its neighboring states, slightly lower than Oklahoma and Arkansas. Illinois has the highest gas prices at $2.84 a gallon followed by Nebraska at $2.72.

Missouri Metro Areas
Springfield had the lowest gas prices in Missouri at $2.43 per gallon, followed by Kansas City ($2.44), Columbia ($2.44) and St. Joseph ($2.45). The highest price was in the St. Louis area at $2.54 a gallon.

Although weather and geopolitical events can affect fuel prices very quickly, the recent decline in prices has been a welcomed trend for Missouri consumers. According to CNN Money, nationwide gasoline prices are not expected to go much above $3 a gallon on average this summer, unless there is a demand surge or severe shock in supply.
