Hispanic Owned Businesses

There were 8,802 Hispanic-owned firms in Missouri in 2012, up from 6,178 in 2007, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2012 Survey of Business Owners. This represents a 42.5% increase in the number of Hispanic-owned firms in the state. These firms accounted for $1.74 billion in sales and receipts in 2012.

In the U.S., there were almost 3.31 million Hispanic-owned firms in 2012, up 46.9% from 2007. Sales and receipts from Hispanic-owned firms totaled $473.6 billion in 2012. Hispanic-owned firms made up 12.0% of all firms in the nation.

States with the largest number of Hispanic-owned businesses were California (815,305), Texas (687,570), Florida (604,128), New York (266,624) and New Jersey (93,336). In addition, California also had the largest gross sales from Hispanic-owned firms. Missouri ranked 30th among the states in the total number of Hispanic-owned firms.

Only four states recorded more than 100,000 Hispanic-owned businesses in 2012. Twenty-three states, including Missouri, had fewer than 10,000 Hispanic-owned firms.

States with the highest percentage of Hispanic-owned businesses, as a percent of all firms, were concentrated in the southwestern portion of the United States. States with the largest concentration of Hispanic-owned businesses were New Mexico (30.7%), Texas (29.2%), Florida (28.8%) and California (23.0%). In Missouri, Hispanics owned 1.8% of all firms in 2012, up from 1.2% of all firms in 2007.
