There were 13,022 Asian-owned firms in Missouri in 2012, up from 9,752 in 2007, according to recently released revised data from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2012 Survey of Business Owners. This was a 33.5% increase in the number of Asian-owned firms in the state. These firms accounted for almost $4.1 billion in sales and receipts in 2012.
In the U.S., there were over 1.9 million Asian-owned firms in 2012, up 29.1% from 2007. Sales and receipts from Asian-owned firms totaled $699.5 billion in 2012. Asian-owned firms made up over 6.9% of all firms and almost 2.1% of all sales and receipts in the U.S.
States with the largest number of Asian-owned businesses were California (604,870), New York (243,105), Texas (155,784), New Jersey (81,898), and Florida (80,938). In addition, California also had the largest gross sales from Asian-owned firms. Missouri ranked 25th among the states in the total number of Asian-owned firms.

Only California, New York, Texas, New Jersey, Florida and Illinois have more than 70,000 Asian-owned businesses. Twenty-four states had fewer than 10,000 Asian-owned firms in 2012.
States with the highest percentage of Asian-owned businesses,
as a percent of all firms, were located mostly on the east and
west coasts of the United States. States with the largest
percentage of Asian-owned businesses were Hawaii (51.5%),
California (17.0%), New York (12.1%) and New Jersey
(10.3%). In Missouri, Asians owned 2.6% of all
firms in 2012.
