Missouri Long-Term Occupational Highlights 
2002-2012

According to the latest long-term occupational projections from MERIC, Food Preparation and Service Workers are projected to have the largest number of job growth openings in Missouri by 2012, increasing by 12,272 new jobs. Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Waiters/Waitresses and Customer Service Representatives are also in the top five occupations for growth openings. Growth openings are new jobs that are being added to the economy. (Replacement openings are vacancies created by worker mobility or retirements - not new jobs.)

The occupation projected to grow at the fastest rate by 2012 in Missouri is Personal Financial Advisors, with a growth rate of 52.02%. Three of the top five fastest growing occupations are in the health field. Medical Assistant occupations are projected to grow by more than 50%, followed by Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists. Network Systems Analysts round out Missouri's top five fastest growing occupations.
