Grade-A Careers for 2012
Grade-A careers are those occupations that will
have the best economic outlook over the next ten years based on: (a)
job openings, (b) percent growth, and (c) average wages.
Most Grade-A Careers will require higher education, particularly college
Of
all Grade-A career openings, 39% will require a bachelor's degree,
11% an associate's or vocational degree, and 7% a graduate degree. However,
21% will require long-term on-the-job training and 22% will require
short-term training.
In 2002, there were 636,514 Grade-A careers in Missouri, accounting for 22.2% of all employment statewide. These careers paid an average annual wage of $52,083, which was much higher than the state average wage.
Over the next ten years, there will be an estimated 241,217 job openings in Grade-A occupations, accounting for 23.3% of all openings statewide. Grade-A careers are also expected to grow by 18.8% percent, much faster than the anticipated state growth rate of 11.2%.
Grade-A Careers pay higher wages than for similar trained careers
Grade-A
careers that pay the highest wages require a graduate or bachelor's
degree, an associate's or vocational degree, or require long-term
on-the-job training. All Grade-A careers pay wages higher than the
average for similar trained careers.
Pharmacists, computer-related occupations, sales managers and registered nurses are among the very best career prospects in Missouri over the coming years.
