Missouri Exports on Track to Set New Record
Missouri's
exports through the second quarter of 2005 were up by nearly eleven
(10.96) percent compared to the same period in 2004 according to
World Institute for Strategic Economic Research (WISER).
Through the end of June 2005, exports by Missouri companies totaled
$5.1 billion, compared to $4.6 billion after the second quarter of
2004. This is particularly good news for the state's businesses
because Missouri set a record for exports in 2004 with $9 billion in
total global sales. These second quarter 2005 figures put the state
on track to top that mark this year.
Eight of Missouri's top ten export product categories increased global sales in the second quarter of 2005, including Agricultural Products (+70.1 percent), Electrical Equipment (+26.3 percent), Primary Metal Manufacturing (+24.8 percent), Machinery (+18.4 percent), Plastics and Rubber Products (+14.5 percent), Transportation Equipment (+13.8 percent), Fabricated Metal Products (+8.4 percent), and Food Products (+8.2 percent).
Top product areas with decreases include: Computers and Electronics (-8.2 percent), and Chemicals (-3.3 percent).
