St. Louis County, $38,886, had the highest per capita income in Missouri. Eight counties in Missouri and St. Louis City enjoyed per capita incomes of $26,000 or higher. Ripley County, $14,199, had the lowest per capita income. Fifteen counties in Missouri had per capita incomes below $16,000.
From 1990 to 1999 every county in Missouri showed an increase in per capita income greater than 25%. Sullivan County experienced the largest percent increase in per capita income an increase of 72.8%, or $8,367. Six Missouri counties, including Sullivan, had an increase of 60% or higher in per capita income from 1990-1999. St. Louis County had the largest increase in dollars, $12,708 or 48.5%. Cole, Green, and Platte counties all experienced an increase of $10,000 or higher in per capita income from 1990-1999.
Between 1998 and 1999, most counties in Missouri experienced positive growth in per capita income. Pulaski County enjoyed a 12% increase, the highest percent increase, with a $2,477 rise in per capita income. Ten Missouri counties had a percent increase of 5% or higher while fifteen counties experienced negative growth in per capita income. Ralls County had the largest decline in per capita income with -4.5% or a loss of $938. St. Clair County was the only county in the state with no change in per capita income.
