One of every five women-owned businesses in Missouri was located in St. Louis County in 2007 accounting for $5.7 billion in sales receipts. Of the 501,064 companies in the Show-Me-State, 130,772 were solely owned by women. Between 2002 and 2007, there was an 8.6 percent increase in female-owned firms and a nearly 20 percent increase in gross sales.
Men-owned businesses outnumbered women-owned business at almost two to one.
Counties
St. Louis County (19.1 percent) accounts for the largest percentage of women-owned businessess in Missouri followed by Jackson County (11.6 percent), St. Charles County (6.0 percent), St. Louis City (5.1 percent), Greene County (5.0 percent) and Clay County (3.9 percent).

Nearly 43 percent of all businesses in Schuyler County are women-owned, the highest percentage of any county in the state.
