In 2007, there were 24,685 black-owned businesses in Missouri, accounting for 4.9 percent of all firms statewide. (There were a total of 501,130 Show-Me State businesses in 2007.) Between 2002 and 2007, there was a 47.4 percent increase in black-owned firms in Missouri.
Counties
Within Missouri, the largest concentrations of black-owned firms were in St. Louis County (38.9 percent), Jackson County (22.5 percent) and St. Louis City (20.5 percent). Smaller concentrations occurred in St. Charles County (2.3 percent), Greene County (2.0 percent), and Clay County (1.6 percent).
St. Louis County generates the largest amount in gross receipts with over $1.2 billion in sales followed by St. Louis City with 443 million in sales.
